Amenities Enrich Condo Living

Amenities are one of the most attractive and least understood perks of condominium living.

Having access to facilities and services that expand your home beyond the square footage of your suite is a lifestyle luxury; yet many people thinking of making the move to a condominium hesitate because a building that appeals to them has amenities they think they might not use. "Why should I pay for facilities that don´t interest me?" they ask.
I can think of four reasons. The first is that building amenities contribute to your resale potential. Second, having a pool, billiards table or fitness equipment available for your guests is hospitable. Third, amenities represent a very small portion of your maintenance fees (only about one per cent for a pool and whirlpool, and less than one per cent for exercise facilities), which is a small price to pay for these conveniences. And last, but not least – you might grow to love the very amenities you are quick to dismiss.

I've seen it many times that purchasers who have never had a pool, or space for a billiards table or fitness equipment, end up being the most avid users of these items. When you come home from a hard day on the job, the prospect of working out is a lot more appealing if you don't have to go out to access state-of-the-art equipment. Being able to swim year round beckons to those who are used to closing up the pool and cottage each fall. I've even seen people who have never played billiards become avid players because the table is handy.

Amenities are so popular, that we are seeing more and more condominium boards hiring fitness and/or program co ordinators. These professionals offer structured lessons and classes to help residents make the most of the remarkable facilities they have at their disposal. The program co ordinator might organize a theatre night, arrange for a masseuse to be available at the spa one day a week, or any number of other activities.

The assortment of amenities in modern condos varies from spectacular multi-purpose rooms to designer-decorated guest suites. Amenity areas are often situated off the lobby and share the inviting, professional finishes of that impressive space. The party room may be on one of the top floors to offer striking views for the events you hold there. Today's gyms have commercial-grade equipment, are brighter and more aesthetically pleasing than ever before and even offer TV viewing while you work out.

These activity areas offer perfect spots for like-minded people to gather to share interests, one of which is maintaining pleasant surroundings. It's great to get to know your neighbours in a social setting.
Concierge service, table tennis, cards, even virtual golf - when factoring amenities into your condominium decision, remember to compare apples to apples. And keep an open mind; you may uncover new facets of yourself in your new surroundings.
